Rosa Bonheur

Rosa Bonheur was born in 1822 and died in 1899.  She was born is Bordeaux, France to Raimond and Sophie Bonheur. When she was 11 her father left their family to live a reclusive live, not to soon after her mother died simply of working herself to death.  In her artist career she studied under an artist named, Léon Cognient.  She became most well known for her work with oils and little sculpting.  Her most famous works were called The Horse Fair and Ploughing in the Nivernais.  My personal favorites are Brizo, a Shepard's Dog, because the dog's portrait reminds me a lot of my dog, Summer.  A shaggy, scruffy dog with thoughtful eyes and a warm look to its face.  My second is The Duel, it;s a painting of a bay stallion and grey stallion fighting for dominance, the bay has a hold on the grey's neck, which reminds me of when my horse got into a fight with a stallion and took a large wound to the neck.  I'm very excited to write passed off her work.  Rosa Bonheur and I really could have been good friends with the fact we both have such a strong passion for animals.

  1. Your poor, sweet horse. That looks painful. I love that you say you and this artist could have been friends. I can see it.
